President's Letter from Cynthia Glazier

The City Council in March, 2008 approved 3 fees: Stormwater, JEA Franchise Fee & Garbage.

1. Stormwater Fee

History:
State & Fed Agencies said that wastewater wasn’t clean enough and imposed new clean water regulations. The City had to spend more to clean it up in order to decrease/manage pollution of the River and local bodies of water. Apparently, the Jacksonville General Fund could not cover that cleanup cost.

Current:
The Storm water fee will be implemented in May and be $5-$7.5/mo.
DIA is investigating if, as a Private Community with retention ponds, etc, it can apply for the Certified Stormwater Retention Pond Credit—which, if granted would entitle each homeowner utilizing the ponds (DIA member?) a 30% discount on the fee.
We still have to pay at least a portion of the fee because eventually, our ponds, etc, run into public water.

2. A 3% FRANCHISE FEE from JEA (the City charged JEA who is passing it on to consumers)

3. A $3 Garbage fee.

According to the Mayor’s office, these 2 fees are a direct result of the City General Fund shortfall due to the recent property tax rollback legislation.

COVENANT REMINDERS
The Deerwood Covenants were developed to make sure our neighborhood was kept to the high standards we have come to expect, and make sure we protect the property values of all of our resident's. We have many different covenants within our community (which are located on this site), and they can certainly become cumbersome to keep track of, so here are a few highlights to help us all enjoy our community to the fullest.

  • Please make sure vehicles are parked in your garage or auto court overnight.

  • Please make sure trash, and yard waste are placed in the auto court, as WastePro does not pick up from the curb in our community.

  • Please make sure all exterior changes to your home are submitted to ARC (forms found on this site). This does include, fence installation or replacement, major landscaping changes and improvements, tree removal, and play set installation.

Thank you all for taking pride in your community and adhering to the covenants in Deerwood.
