December 16, 2004
Greetings to all Deerwood Residents
2005 Assessment. The DIA Board approved
the budget for next year at their December 6th meeting. The
assessment will be $1,775 for 2005, an increase of $125 for each
homeowner over the 2004 assessment. A comparative summary of the
major budget items is attached; we will go over the budget in
detail at the annual meeting next March.
Unfortunately, we continue to include higher
legal expenditures than most of us would like - primarily
because there are two major cases still not completely resolved.
In both of these cases, initial court rulings have been in DIA's
favor and we have filed for reimbursement of our legal fees.
Both decisions were appealed and until the appeals have been
satisfied, we continue to incur legal expenses.
One major property being transferred to DIA by
the Deerwood Country Club is the boatyard area. The new boatyard
will be larger, but in a slightly different location than at
present. We are going to have to replace the fencing, surfacing
and security for the area. Users of the facility to store their
RVs and boats may find future rental fees somewhat higher than
in the past.
The renovated and enlarged playground will
certainly increase the attractiveness and value of Deerwood
homes as well as provide a safe play area for our children, but
we will be budgeting some construction expense for this area for
the next three or four years.
Speeding. Too many residents and guests
are still speeding through Deerwood. But the new radar detector
we recently purchased for the off-duty JSO officers is showing
some success. Thirty-seven citations for speeding were issued
last month. This isn't a statistic I like to cite, but it shows
the need for continued diligence in the safety area. We're still
looking for suggestions to address this problem. One person
suggested to me that we consider removing the bar code for 60
days from any resident who is cited for speeding or running
through stop signs - a bit harsh, but something to think about.
Board Elections. Four of the present
board members including myself will complete their three-year
term on the board at the end of next March. Rick Root is
chairman of the nominating committee and is looking for
candidates from Districts 3, 5, and 8 and for one at-large
position. If you are interested in serving your community in one
of these positions, please contact Rick at 642 0682 or by email
at rootcpa@aol.com.
As information a large majority of those
residents who voted recently approved the Changes to Bylaws
and Articles of Incorporation. Finally, speaking for the
entire DIA board, I hope all Deerwood residents have a safe and
wonderful holiday season.
